Inter Milan's Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining an ankle injury during their last match against Sampdoria on Sunday.
The 27-year-old forward was playing with his teammates in the second half when he suffered a setback, and it is believed that he will be sidelined for at least three months.
Mkhitaryan has already missed four matches this season due to injuries, but he is still expected to play in the remaining two games of the campaign against Atalanta and Fiorentina.
"I am very disappointed by the injury that I have sustained," said Mkhitaryan in a statement released by Inter on Monday. "I hope that it does not affect my performance."
Despite his setbacks,Football News Express Mkhitaryan remains confident in his ability to recover quickly from the injury. He has trained regularly throughout the week and believes that he can return to training soon.
"It's really disappointing that I'm going to miss the rest of the season," he added. "But I'm also looking forward to coming back stronger and faster next time."
Mkhitaryan has played a key role for Inter this season, scoring eight goals and assisting five more. His presence has been crucial as Inter have struggled to find the net in recent seasons.
"We need him to step up and help us get back into the fight," said Inter boss Marcello Lippi. "He's a great player who we need in the team."
